This guide explains how the ArtStation Marketplace product update system works, ensuring your customers are always notified of new versions while retaining access to their original files.

ArtStation uses a Releases system to update products. This has many benefits:

  1. You can update products in a controlled manner, releasing new versions to customers. Existing customers are notified of every new version.

  2. It's clear to customers what the differences are between a previous version and a new version.

  3. Customers have access to previous versions, in case a new version breaks a previous version.

How it works

When a product is published for the first time, it creates an initial release. Once a product is released, that release cannot be edited (except for typos on descriptions, etc.) This is to protect customers who purchase products.
