Problems embedding a YouTube or Vimeo video

Written by Elaine

Sometimes when embedding a video, you may run into the error "Sorry, we cannot use this video for embedding".

In this situation there are a few things to check.

Troubleshooting Video Embedding Errors

  1. Verify the URL Format

    • Ensure you are linking directly to a single video rather than a channel or a playlist.

    • For YouTube, your link should follow this exact format: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frdj1zb9sMY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frdj1zb9sMY).

  2. Check Privacy & Embedding Settings

    • Log in to YouTube or Vimeo and open your video's privacy settings.

    • Verify that the video is set to Public and that the option to allow embedding on external websites is enabled.

  3. Allow Time for API Processing

    • If you recently published the video, YouTube's API may experience a temporary delay in returning embedding permissions.

    • Wait a few hours for the system to update, then try pasting the link again.
